What to Expect Band camp is our first full band activity of the new school year. Band Camp is required for all students who are a part of the band program at Horizon High School, including woodwinds and brass, percussion, and color guard. At band camp, students will participate in morning outdoor rehearsals where they are learning marching fundamentals (and in the second week, learning our marching band show). Color guard students will participate in marching fundamentals, equipment basics and fundamentals, and dance fundamentals as well as learning the marching band show. In the afternoons, we will shift indoors for music sectionals and color guard sectionals.
Physicals/ECG Requirement All students are required to have a cleared physical and ECG (electrocardiogram/heart test) in order to participate in marching band, including color guard and winter guard. Physicals are accepted for one year from the date of the physical. ECGs only need to be completed one time during high school. All students must complete their physical and ECG requirement by July 1 to give us enough time to clear everyone for participation before Band Camp. Physicals/ECG Athletic Clearance Instructions
Lunch OCPS will be providing free lunch for students at band camp. All students are allowed to bring their lunch if they would like to do so. All students will pick up the OCPS lunch (regardless of whether or not they are going to eat it) and if they choose to eat their own lunch, they can give us the OCPS lunch back and we will save it for other students to have snacks when needed.
School Instruments If you require a school instrument and have not received it, please see Ms. Cannon. Bring any materials or equipment (mouthpieces, reeds, etc.) you have for your instrument to the first day of Band Camp.
Donations We are asking for donations of granola bars, fruit snacks, bottled water, and bottled Gatorade/Powerade. These can be dropped off in the band room at any point during Band Camp. During Band Camp, we also request fresh fruit donations for our morning "fruit break" for all students. This information will be shared via email. Thank you for your support!
Premiere Show On Friday, August 2, we will perform our Band Camp Premiere Show in the stadium at 7:00pm. Join us for the premiere of the 2024-2025 edition of The Sound of Horizon!
